Dust storm at Farina

I am not an historian, nor am I particularly interested in railways, but we lived opposite the Burra railway station during the period when 2 cranes, a truck and a low loader delivered one ancient standard gauge carriage and it didn't fit onto the broad gauge rails.

Searching online for 'gauges SA', there were no particularly useful maps showing the gauges, or the dates of the expansion of the railway system. Additionally, dates etc were scattered amongst various websites, with Wikipedia providing the most detail, but not all of it.

I accumulated and sorted any information I could find into a web page and I also noted it on a sequence of maps that are now all together in one place, here.

I did not dive into the finest detail, and only added dual gauge to the map to show the lines into Port Adelaide.

As I read through, I came across several interesting passages from contemporary books and newspapers that I have included under 'Articles'. Then I added some photos showing the difficulty, the dirt and the rocks facing early settlers.

Attempting to locate the new lines, I could not find where Tatiara was and, in the course of searching the name, came across a contemporary article via Trove, which was very long but described the difficulties of the early settlers so well that I have included it (under Articles).

I also added the expansion of South Australian colonisation shown by the annual declaration of Hundreds because I thought that was interesting relative to the railway and Goyder's Line.

Not being a properly trained historian, I didn't make detailed notes of sources as I collected a date here or a sentence there to be re-sorted later, but below is a list of links to the websites I used.
